2 April 2007. The new tenant of the famous Clissold Arms, Caroline Jones of Jobo Developments, has made the following statement;
'We are thrilled to have secured the site of The Clissold Arms for our next venture. It will reopen as a gastropub this summer, following a major refurbishment"..............................

I have asked by a number of folk to add weight to to this campaign. My personal opinion is that 'save the Clissold Arms' is a little overstated as far as I'm aware the building is not to be demolished. It is just the new owners may be removing the memoribilia. everyonewho knows Kinks history is aware of the importance of the Clissold Arms in Kinks history and thats the most important point, not the removal of some small amout of recently installed memorbilia.
As far as I can see memorbilia has been added in recent years and is not material that relates directly to the formation of the Kinks or is personal Davies to the Davies family in the late fifties very early nineteen sixties and is of modest value in terms of the Kinks career and the collector
My view would would be if the new owners could be persuaded to aknowleded the historic importance of the venue in a tasteful but understated manner, with say just a small brass plate or similar . I would not like this to stop the developmet of the site as this is more important as it falling into disrepair and the building lost.
I've read about the plans of the new tenants of the Clissold Arms, in Fortis Green, Muswell Hill, to turn this pub into a fashionable gastropub.
First of all the news shocked and saddened me as a Kinks fan for more than 40 years. In these years I've visited the Clissold Arms many times. In this historic pub (always good food and drinks), one of British places of birth of rock 'n' roll history, I can find my way with my eyes closed.
I understand that 'the world keeps going around' (Kinks 1965) and 'things are gonna change' (Ray Davies 2005), just as I will believe that the new tenants cannot earn a living from only the visits of Kinks fans. But hopefully they spare The Kinks corner (the "museum") with it's unique collection of Kinks memorabilia in this pub, as a mark of honour to one of the greatest leading British bands from the sixties, that started it's career in and around the Clissold Arms in Fortis Green, Muswell Hill.
Parts of this collection are two framed photos (Ray and Dave), I took during a gig they did in 1993 in The Beurs of Berlage in Amsterdam (Netherlands). Two photos I've lend out of my personal collection to the earlier tenants of the Clissold Arms. In case the new tenants persist in selling out the collection (please, think twice and don't do it !) I want them to send back my framed pictures. I cannot allow that these photos, my photos, will be sold in an auction or any other way of selling out.
I hope the new tenants of the Clissold Arms make the right decisions and don't do things they'll regret.

I am aghast. I doubt the locals want a gastropub. If any more is needed to stop this then a reading of Anthony Bourdains thoughts on Gastropubs is needed. Gastro & pub? Surely not. My wife & I were managers of the Clissold from 1995 to 1997. We provided the catering for Daves birthday & were always proud to respond to enquiries from the many visitors. I loved this pub, regret leaving it (my father wants me to go back) & would feel less inclined to visit again if it were turned into a gastropub(shudder). The locals were a great bunch, the feeling in the area was one of a village community & this link with the kinks should be cherished.
I used to work for the new owners of the Clissold Arms. They do a pretty good job of the old gastropub. Have a look at the Birdcage, the Londesborough, the Three Crowns... all in Stoke Newington. Will give you an idea of what you're in for.
